Follow-up tasks and playbooks

A playbook is the church's standard set of tasks. A task is the one assigned to a person this week.

Follow-Up → Setup holds the playbooks (the recipe) and the outcomes (why a card closed). Follow-Up → Tasks is the work.

  1. 01

    Write the playbook once

On Playbooks, name the tasks a card should get. A playbook with no stage runs once, when the card is created, and its first task becomes the opening task. A playbook on a stage runs each time a card enters that stage. Keep it short enough that a volunteer will finish it.

  2. 02

    Work the task list

Open Tasks. Filter unassigned first. Completing a task is contact — it is what the reports mean by “we reached them.”

  3. 03

    Name the outcomes you use

On Outcomes, keep the closed reasons honest. Every church starts with ten. Five are recorded automatically (Joined a group, Serving on a team, Finished a Belong step, Became a member, Lost touch): rename them freely, but they cannot be retired. Retire the other ones you do not use.
